Books: "Darwin's Nightmare"

Talk: Cynthia Mckinney

Topanga Peace Alliance Holiday Party With Cynthia McKinney. Peace activists are invited to the annual TPA holiday party, to celebrate another year working for peace and justice. The special guest is Rep. Cynthia McKinney, who will be in L.A. for a Saturday screening of her prize-winning film, AMERICAN BLACKOUT (see item below). She voted against funding the Iraq war, challenged the use of voting machines, and in her last week in Congress introduced a bill to impeach the president! Bring a dish to share, listen or dance to fabulous music, and share special time with other peacemakers. Also bring clean clothes, canned goods and diapers for the Upward Bound House Homeless Family Shelter. A bin will be by the front door.  6 PM to 10 PM>

Talk: Robert Fisk & Amy Goodman "Media and Politics of Exclusion."

Robert Fisk and Amy Goodman will give the keynote speeches at Saturday's convention of the Muslim Public Affairs Council in Long Beach. The convention's theme is "Reform, Relevance and Renewal: Understanding Islam for the Future."

Robert Fisk is the highly regarded, Beirut-based Middle East correspondent for London's The Independent. His most recent book is The Great War for Civilization, a truly monumental work. Amy Goodman is the host and executive producer of Democracy Now!. She is co-author of the national best-seller STATIC, written with her brother David Goodman. Watch for the national tour book signing dates in L.A..  4:30-5:45PM

Talk: Congresswoman McKinney and American Blackout.  

$50-$100 Saturday, December 16:   7PM-10PM INDOOR SCREENING AND  INTIMATE Q&A @ Celes/Anita King Heritage House, 1240 S. International Migrants Day: Festival of Solidarity and Culture

December 18 was officially designated International Migrants Day by the United Nations in 2000. It is an international day to recognize migrant rights around the world. In the U.S., International Migrants Day is a day when we can express our support and solidarity with all immigrants

Celebrate in L.A. on Sunday, with food, music, performances, crafts and more celebrating the diversity of migrants in Los Angeles. There will also be a procession unveiling the first Bangladeshi public art project in the U.S.

Posada for Immigrant Rights

In the spirit of the season and in celebration of the United Nations International Day of the Migrant, the Avenue 50 Studio and the Arroyo Arts Collective invite the community to join us in a candlelight Posada for Immigrant Rights on Sunday, December 17. Walk with us through one of Los Angeles's oldest, most diverse neighborhoods, singing together to the accompaniment of live musicians, and stopping at three venues along the route, where specific immigrant concerns will be highlighted with brief readings. Our walk will begin and end with music and refreshments at the Avenue 50 Studio/Acorn Gallery, 131-135 N. Avenue 50, in Highland Park. Gather at 4pm in the yard behind the Gallery to learn the Posada song.
