Michael Tzintzun. Michael aka Mikey is a 16 year old organizer with Cop Watch Los Angeles, who defended the farm when it mattered, when it was being destroyed. The system tried to make an example out of him by blaming him for the destruction of a bull dozer and charged him with felony vandalism, battery on "Officers of the Peace" and Resisting Arrest. POM Activists. Leonard Peltier. On Sept. 8, 2006, Leonard’s lawyers argued before US Magistrate Judge Susan R. Nelson for the full release of all FBI files maintained by the Minneapolis Field Office relating to Leonard Peltier and RESMURS (Reservation Murder Scene). On Oct. 24, the Judge ruled in agreement with the FBI that this material could be withheld for national security considerations and to protect confidential sources. Abolishing the CA Death Penalty. California’s execution chamber will remain shuttered through the rest of this year. The long delayed hearing in death row inmate Michael Morales’ challenge to the state’s lethal injection procedures was held in September and although the Judge predicted a decision by early November no ruling has been issued. In mid-November, state agents searched Morales attorney Kathleen Culhane’s home alleging this could provide evidence of crimes, including forgery and perjury. LA Bus Riders Union. On October 23, Federal District Court Judge Terry J. Hatter, Jr ruled against an extension of the consent decree between the BRU and MTA. This agreement had been an essential part of the BRU’s struggle to enforce the right of L.A. County’s Black, Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander and low-income communities to an equitable and just transit system. While some positive social and environmental gains were made during the period that the Consent Decree was in effect, the MTA has been "in a mode of defiance" for the last two years leaving many issues unresolved. Air America. FAIR (<www.fair.org>) revealed in late Oct. 2006 that 90 large corporate advertisers stipulated to ABC Radio Networks that they don’t want their commercials to air on Air America. Nova M Radio. Anita Drobny and Sheldon Drobny, co-founders of Air America Radio and partner Dr. Mike Newcomb, are the principals of the new network. Nova M Radio, Inc. based in Phoenix, Arizona officially announced the formation of its new progressive talk radio network.
